Saga, Vol.11

Watching the HBO series GAME of THRONES, it seemed to me that they kept systematically killing off every cool character until by the end only second tier characters like Sam Tarley were running the show!( Small wonder I slowly but surely lost interest in the show as a whole!)
Sadly, it appears (at least to me) that they're doing the SAME thing with SAGA, using deaths to fuel shock and emotion t the end of each big story arc, but leaving us with weaker characters to follow in its wake.... VERY disappointed with how this volume ended.

Oblivion Song, Vol.6

It has been over four years since I first began the epic image comics series "Oblivion Song", the story of a man named Nathan Cole caught between two worlds, and just tonight i finished reading the series last amazing arc!
The series started out as a man jumping back and forth between the two worlds, trying to save the people who have slipped to the alien side, but slowly turned into a dramatic tale of epic proportions as it becomes a story of war against an alien race who are hellbent on using the timeslipping tech to invade out world and take over!
Lots of twists and turns, and strangely short and sweet as compared to other works of Robert "Walking Dead" Kirkman!

Saga, Vol.10

After the deaths of so many key characters in the last story arc, the new chapter was off to a rough start, and after two issues and losing interest fast, I really lost my fascination with this strip and no longer felt it was worth it to trudge into the comic shop each month to pick up each issue. So from that point on, i would begin only collecting the trades, and this is the first of them, collecting issues 55-60.

East of West: Complete Run

Back in July of 2016 I had made a trip down to my local used bookstore, and there on the shelves were copies of East Of West trades 1 and 4. I had been lookin for something new to read and so, taking a chance, I grabbed Vol.1 with a plan to purchase the rest of them if the first book grabbed me.
Well to say it grabbed me was an understatement- besides the beautiful art was an intriguing storyline and compelling characters involving an alternate world where the United States was broken up into different factions about to go to war even as the Apocalypse looms. Throw in the rebirth of the Four Horsemen: Death, War Conquest and Famine once again walking the earth, and you had the makings of a MAJOR modern Sci-Fi/fantasy EPIC!
Reading that first book, it was time to get all the rest of the volumes! At the time, East Of West was at Vol.5 of the series , so after running back to the bookstore to grab Vol.4, I went to Amazon and put in an order for Volumes 2, 3 and 5!!
Reading the series from Book One to Book Five, I was completely floored at how good this series was. The promise made at the beginning of the series was fully met, with the story getting more and more intricate even as we got to know the characters better and better!
Image Comics has a history of uneven and even delayed releases and I was often disappointed to learn that a book I was expecting to get would be delayed for weeks and even months at a time! I was not a buyer of the individual ,single issues, preferring to wait for collections, so these stretches of waiting was agony, and you can see by my posts how erratic the releases were:
Vol. 6 October 2016
Vol. 7 September 2017 (almost a whole YEAR waiting!)
Vol. 8  August 2018
Vol. 9 May 2019
But I couldn’t complain because very time I got my hands on the next book, I was in seventh heaven! It seemed like it was just going to get better and better!
Finally in July of last year it was announced that East of West was going to be wrapping things up and the next three issues would be its last! The series concluded in December of last year, but the final trade paperback of Vol.10 would not be released until May of 2020.
Oh MAN, that was almost another whole YEAR of waiting, but I told myself to be patient.
Then Coronavirus hit and suddenly things were up in the air. Diamond Distributors was putting all its deliveries on hold and closing shop. And with that, most COMIC STORES began shuttering as well! We were assuaged that this would be a temporary step and once the pandemic died down, things would be up and running.
Well, I could only hope that that was true, in the meantime, however, my main thought was “WHAT ABOUT THAT LAST VOLUME!!!” And so, in the end, i just went on to ebay and, for a very reasonable price, BOUGHT the last three issues!
Well. those babies came in just a few days ago and, with them in hand, I went back and, starting from Volume One, read ALL the way through to East of West’s final, magnificent, climactic issue!!

HOLY HELL, this series is one of the most AWESOME series I’ve READ!!!! By the time I was getting down to the last chapter, i was reading each page as slowly as I could to prolong the excitement in my heart, and as the characters went through the confrontation, the final wars and the sombre conclusion I was exhausted!
‘This was a freakin’ MASTERPIECE!!!
PS: East of West’s collected volumes don’t have anything in the way of bonus material like most other series do, still, when that last volume DOES come out, I’m STILL going to have to get it, if only to complete my set!!!
It has been one HELL of a ride!!!

The Walking Dead Vol.32: Rest In Peace

Well, thanks to Big Mouth Zack of Diversity & Comics, I already knew the BIG spoiler for this story arc, but I wasn't surprised Mssrs Kirkman and Adlard decided to wrap this series up. Like the television series, that it spawned, the trials and tribulations of Rick Grimes and the gang was beginning to be repetitive: Have Peace. Meet New People. Stir things up. There is an uprising, people die, more peace, over and over.
At least they managed to end things on a nice note.

East Of West Vol.9

Was pretty shocked when Gerg told me he heard that East of West was on its last arc and was wrapping up soon, but things have been building up for awhile in the series and I figure it's about time we get the big explosions!
Judging by the individual issues, I'm guessing there will be one more volume to this series before it ends? Looks like it's gonna be a BIG one!
PS: man, BOTh East of West AND Wicked + The Divine wrapping up at the same time! My tow BIG fave comics series. Looks like there'll only be SAGA left!

"Barrier"

Always up for reading anything from Brian K Vaughan and his latest mini-series "Barrier" with artist Marcos Martin intrigued me with its unique sideways "calendar" style book, beautiful art and compelling story of barriers, both physical, social and mental, but after reading all 5 issues, I have to say for the record how I much I HATED the way it ended. Very "clever" but BRAH what a waste of time this ultimately turned into. I'll pass.

Paper Girls Vol.5

First trade Paperback I've gotten of Paper Girls since I dropped the series as a monthly pick-up, and had quite a bit of catching up to do! Even had to go back and re-read some of the issue before to get reacquainted with the series!

Oblivion Song, Vol.One: Chapter One

A few months I picked up the first two issues of Oblivion Song and noted that, while it was intriguing, it would read better in collected form so I decdied to drop the monthlies and wait for the volume trades.
Welp, Volume One just came out and I gotta say this is shaping up to be yet another great Kirkman series, along with Outcast and Walking Dead.

East Of West Vol.8

Starting all over again from Vol.1 before I dig into the 8th volume in the awesome east of west series....

Outcast: Vol.6: Invasion

Things are moving along swimmingly for Kyle and his gang of Demon-exorcising co-horts but I AM worrying that the characters will become just another "Walking Dead" retread as he becomes the de-facto :"head" of his group, complete with headquarters and fences to "keep the bad guys out"....

Lazarus: X+66 / Sourcebook Collection, Vol.One

When Image announced that Lazarus was going on hiatus and was going to be publishing a story called Lazarus X+66 featuring side-characters (and guest artists) in its stead, I wasn't going to pick it up. I was only concerned about the main story and wasn't sure how these side stories would hold up to the greater work.
The  Graphic Novel came out in April (along with the Lazarus Sourcebook), but i didn't pick it up til i happened to be at the comic shop Other Realms with Jas, and seeing both books there on the shelf, I couldn't resist and bought 'em...and MAN am I GLAD I did!
Far from being mere filler stories, these were gripping, emotional and absolutely ESSENTIAL sides to the Lazarus storyline and I enjoyed it so, so much!

Oblivion Song

Checking out the new Robert Kirkman series "Oblivion Song". Was gonna wait until it got collected into a trade, but since Gecko's had the first two issues, I decided, what the hell, I'll check it out. Pretty good so far!!!

EDIT:
Decided to wait until Oblivion Song is collected into Graphic Novel form rather than buying the floppies each month.

The Walking Dead Vol.29

Continuing on with the Walking Dead....

Back to Buying Monthly Issues of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE

After three long years I'm finally going back to picking up the monthly issues of The Wicked + The Divine! I'd been thinking about returning to monthlies for awhile now since the storyline is getting so damn good, and when I found that they were going back to "portrait" style covers like the original, that was the deal-sealer!
The portrait style covers was one of the big attractions I initially had for the series, and I even went on ebay to get the variant portrait covers of issue #1 to have the whole set. Strangely they halted the portrait covers right when they changed artists and started a new storyline, and this was the BIG reason I stopped picking up monthlies and went for the trades only.
But with Jamie McKelvie on as the permanent illustrator for the series and the news by Kieron Gillen that the series is making its way to its conclusion, I've decided to support the strip every month as WELL as picking up the trades when they come out! Should ultimately be a KILLER series!
