We were talking about songs with nostalgic overtones the other night, and noticed that two singles not only dipped heavily into childhood nostalgia, but hit upon the same visuals as well!
The Kinks had just released their new single “Come Dancing”, a winsome tune based on singer songwriter Ray Davies’ actual memories of his older sister going out dancing on dates when he was a boy.
And Madness had released their song “Our House” which had the lads reminiscing fancifully about their memories growing up in their bustling, busy home as kids!
Both featured strict mothers wearing house dresses and head-scarves scolding her kids (the Madness one hilariously played by one of the members!)
Come Dancing:
Most significantly, both showed a scene of the young boy rocking out air-guitaring with a tennis racket up in his room...before coolly segueing into footage of the actual band guitarist belting out the chords on his electric guitar!
Come Dancing:
At a glance, one might think that the one was spoofing the other, but in a VERY strange coincidence, BOTH singles came out in November of 1982, just showing how much everyone was reminiscing about the good old days back then!
